The aches, pains, and joys of moving
I am SUPER excited to be moving to this new apartment. The new landlady gave me keys last Sunday, and I've been slowly taking bits and pieces of my life to the new apartment over the last week... One carload before school (er, work), one load after. Maybe. First to go were my collections. Yarn. Shoes. Bags. Books (subsets: school, pleasure, knitting). Folks, I have a lot of stuff. Moving almost makes me think I might have TOO much. (nah!!!)
The new place is much nicer, cleaner, quieter, and cheaper. My rent is almost $300 cheaper, and I don't have to pay for any of my utilities (electricity, cable, internet). YAY. I'm shopping around for a private gym membership now (b/c I've gained the 1st year doctoral program version of the freshman 15, which feels like first year fat fat fat). Anyone in the greater Boston area have suggestions? I've looked online at Healthworks and BSC. I love the idea of all women (but, I might miss the inspirational effects of watching men doing their tricep dips and pull ups), it's got a salon attached to the gym, and the locker room sounds more like a spa than a typical gym. HOWEVER, you have to pay extra to take the group classes? eh.
I digress. The new place also feels bigger. I have closets GALORE. I have a yarn closet (where I'll store needles, my baby/acrylic/felting yarn, ball winder and swift. I have another closet just for my shoe and pocketbook collection. I have a HUGE clothes closet, and a linen closet. Is a perfect fit for moi, non? I also love how I have my yarntainer next to my collection of knitting books (on a built in shelf) and a nice comfy chair between the two. I'll have pictures soon. I started inventorying my yarn while I was packing, but I decided it was going to be a wasted effort (if and when I get invited to Ravelry).
while i'm glad to have moved from my old crappy apt, I hate moving... I'm crabby and bitchy, I feel dirty all the time, and my furbabies are disoriented (Danger keeps meowing for me at the door. DUDE. My ass is on the couch where it always is!).
Just a quick hello and entry to remind myself where I was in my life at this point. It was Stacey's birthday yesterday, and the Estes Wool Festival is happening this weekend. I'm sad to be missing it, but I really shouldn't complain.
Hope you are all doing well. I promise to start back to commenting on blogs soon (instead of drive by reading).

where's the new place?
Glad to hear you're all moved! Moving out is a pain but moving in is fun.
Nice that it has a yarn closet!
so awesome! and i know what you mean about the dirty disgusting feeling about moving.
Wow! Sounds awesome!! I can't wait to come for a visit!
Congratulations on the new place!
Does the university give you access to its gyms & whatnot with your tuition? Since I'm not in Boston, I have no other suggestions. :-)
Too much stuff? Surely you jest!!
I hate moving, too... it's good to get it overwith and then you can enjoy your nice new place.
Miss seeing you here in Denver.
good luck with your move! the new place sounds awesome! how'd you snag such a great deal?
Hi! I just found your blog via a link from another knitblogger (sorry, I can't remember which one). Anway, I'm looking forward to reading more of your postings, WIPs and FOs.
With regard to the gym, I was a member of Healthworks in the mid-90s and LOVED it! I used the ones on Comm. Ave. and at Copley. Good times and I got stronger and healthier. I've just never found another place like it since my move.
Good luck!
=)
Hope the move is going well. I hate moving. I prob need to soon just to force myself to inventory all the junk we've managed to aquire over the last 6 years. Ha.
I hate moving, absolutely hate it. I expect you'd be mostly setted in now. You don't have access to the university gyms? That's what I would suggest, but I assume it's not close by or some other reason for not using it? Hope all is well.
The new place sounds fabulous! I'm jealous of all your storage.
Love your charts... Did you ever chart Robin Hood? I'm trying to make one now..
