The things we do in the name of love
For the past couple of weeks, I've been dealing. Dealing with the fact that I have not just senior, but GERIATRIC cats. I almost burst into tears a few weeks ago b/c I took my babies into the vet for their annual. On the receipt, it says, bi-annual geriatric cat check up. What? Wait!!! I haven't accepted the fact that they are senior cats yet! Then, the vet said that Danger had a cavity, so we scheduled a dentist appointment for him. For those of you not in the know, pets need to be put under anesthesia for a dental cleaning, which worries me. I scheduled one for two weeks after the vet appointment, and was given some antibiotics to start giving him the night before the procedure. (He's so easy to pill, it's ridiculous. Cosmo on the other hand, I have never ever been successful at pilling).
Danger seemed fine when I brought him home. A little dizzy, and acting like a drunken sailor, but seemed fine. Then, IT began. He was obviously sick, with things running from both ends (sorry for the visual). I was chasing after him with paper towels and baby wet wipes all day and all night. He seemed to be doing better on Sunday, but relapsed on Monday evening. Not only was he running on ends, but he didn't seem to be eating either. Back to the vet we go.
The vet gives Danger an appetite stimulant, and force feeds him for me. When we get back, we are NOT greeted with open paws by his brother Cosmo. Cosmo is hissing his damn fool head off. Who thought up the idea that cats should recognize by smell instead of sight? So, it's been a week since we've had peace in this house. A week of hissing and whapping. A week of me yelling at Cosmo, coddling Danger, and feeling guilty. Usually, both kitties sleep in the bed with me. Cosmo starts at my head (while I'm reading) then moves to the feet once I turn the light off. Danger starts at my side (while I"m reading) and moves down to the feet when I've fallen asleep. USUALLY, I wake up to see the two of them snuggling together. Obviously, none of this was happening.
You couldn't tell it by these cute faces, huh?
I didn't have time to take a pic, but now we are like this:
Warms my little heart.
On the knitting front, we've got nada nada zilch. Working on the edging of Print O The Wave. Over halfway done.

I'm glad Cosmo & Danger are snuggling again!
My cats are 10 & 11 and I don't want to thing about them getting any older :)
They're still your babies no matter how old they are.
Is Danger all better now? I had to force feed one of my cats every 4 hours for 3 weeks until he decided to eat again.
Is Danger ok??? Look at how sweet they are. Awwww... (I totally know about that whapping business.)
aww, I'm sorry about Danger being sick, but glad to know your fur babies are feeling better and back to their happy selves.
It upset me for a long time, too, when I discovered that Emily was geriatric. I still don't want to lose her - but then I realized, cats can be geriatric for half their lives. I hope Cosmo and Danger are with you for many happy years to come!
awww i get the same way with my pets...
So Danger recovered from the dental work? Poor kitty. The whapping! I know it's not funny but it's cracking me up anyway.
Don't you love that they lay on your feet? Pinioning to bed.
Oh gosh, that sounded horrible! Poor Danger. I hope he feels better soon.
Poor babies....and poor you for having to deal with it! Glad that things are back to normal though!
