"I hate waiting."

As you might guess, I'm a bit impatient. I had hoped that picking up a pair of knitting needles would help me learn about the virtue of patience... but it seems I just want my projects to go along as quickly as possible.

you know it's been too long when...

when your internet browser doesn't know the address of your blog. Aye. Ok. Quick and pictureless update. I hope to have pics for tomorrow (or next week).

1). TWO FO's. Reid is finally finished. The crocheted edge takes longer than I would've thought. Crumpets is also finished. I used a different edging than the pattern calls for... instead of a loopy/lacey crocheted edge around the skirt, I did a scalloped edging.

2) Cast on: I wanted to use my Tres Campy yarn, and cast on for the melon scarf/shawl out of Victorian Lace today. Unfortunately, while I loved the pattern itself, the yarn wasn't agreeing. It was pooling in an unattractive manner. RIPPIT. Cast on for the scarf on page 84.

3) school: actually, the classes i'm taking are fairly easy. what's hard is juggling the schoolwork, the teaching and supervision of 10 master's students (I teach for 1 hr, then meet with them in pairs every week), research, and my practicum... all of that is making my head spin. I'm tired and hungry a lot.

hope everyone is doing well.... i'll be back on a more regular basis as soon as I figure out how to keep my head above water.

EZ? Yes. Intuitive? No.

I've finally knit my first Elizabeth Zimmerman garment. The baby surplice jacket is a cute variation on the ever popular baby surprise jacket... but since I had the pattern for the surplice, surplice it was.

At first, I thought maybe I am crazy or tetched in the head. I am NOT loving the pattern. I kept going, thinking, everyone else has made one of these, I can do it too. Plus, I excused EZ from any wrongdoing, since the pattern was dug up from her archives or something and re-written by someone at Vogue. I have to say that it took some faith to continue knitting past the increases, b/c I could not figure out the construction of this thing. No idea. No clue. Just... a leap of faith.

OH! OH LOOK! it says I just need to seam now? (but it seems like I'm in the middle of the garment? what?

I've only knit a few rows (maybe 5-6) since the last time I took pictures but I'm done! And amazed at the simplicity and genius of the design. Wanna see?

I love it. Can't wait to gift it. I'm knitting crumpets, plan on at least one pair of booties, and maybe I'll crochet a small car blanket. We'll see.

Gearing up...

school starts on Tuesday for me. For my second year as a doctoral student, I'm expected to:
- spend 24 hrs per week off campus working as a counselor (practicum)
- spend 10 hrs per week in research assistantship
- spend 10 hrs per week teaching counseling skills to master's students
- take 3 courses

Mondays and Tuesdays will be my days on campus, and I'll spend Wed - Friday at my practicum site. Undoubtedly, Tuesday will be my LONG day, since I have class at 9a, and a class that ends at 930p. I'm hoping most of my other days are 9a-5p kind of days.

Anyways, I hope everyone is enjoying their Labor Day weekend. check this video out... i giggled like a schoolgirl.
